Over the years, cosmetic procedures in the Middle East have become rather popular. Dubai ranks on top in providing some of the most exceptional services in this regard. Among all the cosmetic procedures, rhinoplasty happens to rank on top with a large number of women going for it to enhance their facial aesthetics.
What Is Rhinoplasty?
A rhinoplasty procedure, also known as a nose job, is a popular cosmetic procedure not only in Dubai but all over the world. Most people get this procedure to change the shape of their nose or improve its function.
Nose jobs are also done for medical reasons like correcting breathing problems, sleep issues like snoring, sleep apnea, or disfigurements due to birth defects or trauma. People who are not satisfied with the shape of their nose could also get the procedure done to change the shape, size, and appearance of their nose.
Other than that, the rhinoplasty procedure has proven to be quite effective for correcting a wide range of nose issues such as smoothing bumps, straightening crooked/hooked nose, or correcting nasal tip droops.
Rhinoplasty Procedure
You can get a rhinoplasty procedure either in an equipped doctor’s plastic surgery clinic, hospital, or an outpatient surgical facility. Your doctor shall either use general or local anesthesia. Local anesthesia helps to numb the face. You might get medication via an IV line that will make you groggy. However, you would still be awake.
In some cases, the doctor requires the patient to inhale a drug or get one via an IV with general anesthesia. It makes them unconscious. Once the anesthesia takes effect and you are numb or unconscious, it is time for the surgeon to make cuts inside or between your nostrils. The skin is separated from your cartilage or bone to initiate the reshaping process.
To give the nose a new shape, a small amount of additional cartilage is required, it is removed from deep inside the nose or from your ear. In case for more, the surgeon might go ahead with an implant or bone graft.
Usually, rhinoplasty in Dubai takes one to two hours. In the case of complex surgery, it might take longer.
Rhinoplasty – Types
In this section, we are going to take a look at some major types of rhinoplasty procedure:
Closed Rhinoplasty
It is the most common type of rhinoplasty procedure. In this process, there are no external scars as all incisions are hidden inside the nose. The soft tissue is lifted upwards so the bone and cartilage are accessible to the surgeon. The technical methods followed are the same for both open and closed rhinoplasty once the inside structure of the nose is visualized.
Open Rhinoplasty
Those who require extensive work to be done on their nose opt for open rhinoplasty. The surgeon makes the incisions in the skin between the nostrils underneath the nose. Then the skin is lifted to expose the nasal cavity. Open rhinoplasty is needed for extensive grafting or if there are chances of revision surgery. This form of rhinoplasty procedure is ideal for those with genetic structural deformities in the nose, acquired deformities due to trauma, collapsed valves due to former hump removal, or unsatisfactory results from previous surgery.
After the procedure, the nose is taped for stabilization and a nasal splint is placed over the tape.
Rhino-tip Surgery
This surgery is done to alter the nose shape by changing the structure of the underlying cartilage. To reduce scarring, most alterations are done from the inside. This rhinoplasty procedure is suitable for modifying flared nostrils, hooked tips, or crooked noses.
Septo-Rhinoplasty
This plastic surgery is carried out to improve your breathing. Those with a deviated septum usually opt for it. The septum is the cartilage inside the nose that divides the nostrils. The surgeon makes an incision in the mucosa, the lining inside the nose, and lifts it to remove any bent parts and straighten them to enable clear breathing. The process helps with improved breathing. Also, the appearance of your nose could be adjusted and improved.

Rhinoplasty – Recovery
Although you would be up and moving within 24 hours, you should take a week off from work or school to give time to yourself to heal. Usually, patients have to wear a plastic or metal nasal splint for the first week. The splint helps in retaining the nose shape as it heals. Sometimes, nasal packs or splints are placed inside the nostrils to stabilize the septum. Also, in the initial days, the patient has to keep the head elevated and apply ice packs to bring down the swelling. It also reduces bleeding.
There will be some bruising, swelling, and discoloration around the eyelids after surgery. Generally, it comes down after three days but could last for two weeks. In rare cases, the patient might experience these signs for six months. Swelling could linger for a longer period.
The best thing to do is apply ice packs or cold compress to decrease discoloration and bring down swelling.
Few hours after the rhinoplasty procedure, you will be monitored in a recovery room. You might leave in a day. In more complicated procedures, you will have to stay for a day or two.
Nasal dressings, splints, and sutures are removed 7 days after surgery. You can use makeup to hide any residual bruising. The patients have absorbable stitches that dissolve on their own and do not require removal. If not, you would have to see the surgeon after a week to get the stitches taken out. The majority of the recipients of this rhinoplasty procedure are comfortable going out in public after 7-10 days. Once completely healed, only then your new nose shape will be apparent.
Some common side effects the patient shall face after rhinoplasty procedure include face puffiness and headaches. The doctor will prescribe medicine for it.
