The Thread Lift is a procedure that lifts the face without having to make any surgical incisions. Unlike a traditional face-lift, it is quick to recover from and does not require bandaging or dressings.
What is Thread Lift?
As we age, gravity and time shows on our faces. Even those who are fortunate enough to have minimal wrinkles and lines can still have their ages given away by sagging jowls and heavy eyelids. The Thread lift is a great way to regain a youthful, firm and toned face without going under the surgeon’s scalpel.
There are two main types of threads used: free floating threads that are cogged or barbed; and smooth, suspension threads which are joined to another part of the face or head to keep them in place. The procedure is usually performed under a local anaesthetic and is most popular with patients with mild to moderate facial sagging.
If you are considering a Thread Lift, it is important that you learn as much as possible about the procedure first. Your surgeon will also explain the treatment in more detail during a consultation, so ask for clarification if there’s anything you’re unsure of.
How The Thread Lift Works?
First, your surgeon will mark the areas to be worked on using a surgical pen, and ones the positions have been clearly marked small punctures are inserted into the skin. Popular areas for the procedure include brows, cheeks, lower eye areas and jawline. The positioning and planting of the threads is relatively quick – between half an hour and two hours.
Free Floating Barbed Threads
The needle containing the thread is put through the subcutaneous fat under the skin. It is then removed, leaving the tiny cogs on the thread to attach to the underside and secure it in place.
Suspension/smooth threads
Threads are inserted into the puncture holes, but instead of being secured inside the skin they are then attached to an “anchoring point”, often on the scalp.
Effects of the Thread Lift
This procedure can dramatically boost the appearance of the face.
Some results can be seen immediately, but the effects of the Thread Lift actually improve with time. As your own collage begins to grow around the threads the lifting effect grows stronger, and this takes around 3 to 6 months. Many people still see effects for up to five years.
