What is Dry Needling?
Dry needling is a therapeutic method that utilizes thin, sterile filiform needles to elicit myofascial trigger points and dysfunctional motor endplates of muscle. The focal mechanical stimulus enhances local perfusion, regulates nociceptive transmission, and enhances removal of metabolic byproducts in soft tissues. This action diminishes neuromuscular tension, enhances microcirculation, and encourages tissue repair. Scientifically, dry needling has been found to affect inflammatory mediators and have analgesic effects through peripheral and central mechanisms beneficial for restoration and regulation. In contrast to acupuncture based on traditional Chinese models, dry needling is based on Western anatomy and neurophysiology and is extensively incorporated into sports rehabilitation and clinical physiotherapy.
Types of Dry Needling
The Nova wellness clinic offers several dry needling methods suited to your recovery and health requirements:
Trigger Point Dry Needling
In this first approach, the professional uses a thin needle to insert into active myofascial trigger points. It inactivates local contractures, eliminates referred pain, and normalizes muscle function.
Superficial Dry Needling
In this shallow procedure, the needle is positioned close to the skin to modulate sensory input and decrease pain. It assists in circulation and is appropriate for tender areas.
Deep Dry Needling
In this method, the needle is pushed deeper into muscle layers to treat persistent tightness. It enhances flexibility, decreases stiffness, and helps in functional rehabilitation.
Periosteal Pecking
With this progressive technique, the periosteum is lightly stimulated with the needle to initiate local healing responses. It is applied to facilitate tendon and enthesis healing in chronic cases.
How is Dry Needling Performed?
See the process of a dry needling therapy, a procedure lasting 20–30 minutes that enhances muscle function and alleviates local pain.
- Assessment & Target Selection: The area is assessed and clinically relevant trigger points are determined. Needle type and safety parameters are verified for accuracy and comfort.
- Needle Insertion & Tissue Stimulation: When the needle hits the trigger point, there is a temporary local twitch response. It releases contracture, increases perfusion, and regulates pain.
- Controlled Application & Adjustment: Needle depth and contact time are adjusted to the tissue target. Gentle manipulation can be employed to extend the therapeutic effect while not compromising tolerance.
- Healing & Care After Treatment: Following removal, the site is monitored for response. Transient soreness can occur and abate by itself. Hydration and gentle mobilization are advised to enhance benefits.
Benefits of Dry Needling
- Alleviates muscle stiffness and long-standing trigger point tension.
- Enhances circulation and oxygenation of affected tissues.
- Aids neuromuscular re education and motor control.
- Decreases pain, swelling, and stiffness.
- Induces relaxation and stress reduction.
- Improves recovery and general physical well being.
Conditions Treated with Dry Needling
Dry needling has been extensively practiced to enhance musculoskeletal wellness in numerous forms. Dry needling is most ideally suited for patients who want a focused, complementary treatment in addition to standard care.
- Pain & Musculoskeletal Conditions: Can assist in alleviating chronic neck and back pain, muscular tightness, tendinopathy, joint associated discomfort, and sport related stiffness.
- Neurological & Headache Disorders: Utilized to alleviate tension type headaches, migraines of muscular origin, jaw dysfunction, and myofascial contributors to neuropathic complaints.
- Postural & Movement Dysfunction: Facilitates correction of muscular imbalance, enhances mobility restrictions, and aids repetitive strain and overload patterns.
- Performance & Rehabilitation Support: Used to maximize muscle efficiency, reduce recovery times, and minimize recurrence risk through focused myofascial release.
- Circulatory & Metabolic Support: Enhances local microcirculation, reduces fatigue related to trigger point activity, and aids tissue healing requirements.
- Localized Trigger Point Bands: Treats focal knots that limit movement and refer to pain.
- Overuse-Related Tightness: Relax stiffness caused by repetitive work, training loads, or ergonomics.
- Post Injury Guarding: Decrease protective spasm limiting range after sprain or strain.
- Functional Asymmetry: Re-establish balanced activation patterns for effective motion.

I've been coming to The Nova Clinic Al Wasl Branch for laser hair removal and really happy with the results I'm getting. Shoutout to Dr. Saima, she's so sweet, very detailed and professional when it comes to explaining the procedures and whats best for me, and a shoutout to her nurse Rachel too. The only thing is that sometimes it's quite difficult to change or book appointments if I want to book something soon, which makes me have to wait a long time. However overall, I would definitely recommend this clinic to others!Fatma Hassan

It was my first time at the Nova clinic and I was pleasantly impressed. A very beautiful, spacious and clean place with excellent service and professional specialists. I came for a procedure with cosmetologist Natalya and she selected a treatment for me based on my skin type and according to my recommendations, we did peeling and lifting of the lower part of the face, everything went as comfortable and pleasant as possible) After the procedure, my face was shining and looked very fresh, and after a few days I began to receive a million compliments that I began to look much better and that something had changed noticeably, this cannot please me either when in the morning I saw an even tone and a toned face. In general, I am very pleased and recommend Natalia as a specialist in caring for your face.Diana Gorbacheva

Everyone told me im glowing which is why im going to do the facial again very soon! Plus it seemed like it reduced visible fine lines/wrinkles. I highly recommend this facial and clinic, as it's very clean and welcoming.Dunia hasbini
